IVF Support

IVF and Acupuncture

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) fertilizes and egg with outside of the human body. It is a fertility treatment used when a woman has had difficulty conceiving a child. Success rates for IVF are well below 50% per attempt. It is often necessary to make several attempts before successfully conceiving and delivering a child. MJ Clinic does not perform IVF treatments, but specializes in IVF acupuncture that optimizes IVF conception.

Combining acupuncture with an IVF can increase the likelihood of a woman’s conception by 65%, and drastically lowers instances of stillbirth. Chances of conception do increase when a woman has multiple IVF treatments, but continued IVF treatment is prohibitively expensive. The best approach is to precede the first IVF treatment with three months of acupuncture, a healthy diet, regular exercise, stress management and Chinese herbal medicine. Our acupuncture and lifestyle recommendations bring a woman into optimum physical and emotional health, allowing the maximum chance of successful child conception.

Every couple wishing to conceive is unique as there are many possible reasons for infertility. Each situation must be examined individually and treated accordingly. Individually tailored programmes maximisation chances of IVF success. In some instances successful acupuncture and health treatment allow a couple to conceive naturally and forgo any IVF.

There are several reasons for low fertility:

  • Advanced age of the woman
  • Hormonal imbalance in the woman– Low AMH
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
  • Endometriosis
  • Low sperm count in the male
  • Endometrial Receptivity

Fertility treatments can be helped considerably with acupuncture stress reduction and the balancing of energy of the reproductive organs.

Harmonizing the liver and kidneys also improves the chances of conception; imbalance of these organs is sometimes the reason behind unexplained infertility.

Acupuncture and related treatments can increase chances of conception in all these situations, as well as situations where the lack of fertility is unexplained.

Acupuncture, sometimes in combination with Asian herbs, can create a fertile environment, help regulate the menstrual cycle, balance the reproductive system and significantly increase chances of fertility and healthy full term pregnancy.

Fertility increases as fresh blood circulates in the pelvic areas, ovaries and reproductive organs. Acupuncture encourages reproductive health and fertility through increased energy and blood circulation. This ‘entire body’ approach is the key to complete health and healing.

Conditions such as PMS, reproductive pain as well as many painful Gynaecological and Pregnancy related reproductive and pelvic disorders can be alleviated through acupuncture. Conditions such as Breech Baby and Delayed Labour, Pregnancy related Nausea, Postpartum Depression and Immune system functioning can all be greatly relieved by acupuncture.

IVF and IUI fertility medications often entail side effects such as bloating and nausea, as well as the inevitable stress of the procedures. Acupuncture can greatly reduce these side effects

Whether IVF treatment is successful or not any couples wishing to conceive can expect to experience a range of strong emotions, from extreme disappointment to overwhelming joy. Acupuncture is highly useful for dealing with these emotional extremes.

Acupuncture IVF support is especially appropriate for couples over 40 years of age that require stimulation for their reproductive systems and overall health; it can effectively reduce biological age.

    Acupuncture Fertility Treatment

The age of the couple trying to conceive is an important factor with IVF. Older patients have more difficult, though there are several factors at work here. Women under 35 typically require acupuncture treatment once per week. Women over 35 achieve best results with treatments twice per week.

Fertility treatments generally take between 3 to 9 months to achieve results, depending on the health and specific issues of each individual couple.

Optimal conditions for IVF are achieved after 3 months of acupuncture. However, acupuncture’s benefits are cumulative, so a shorter period of acupuncture will still yield some benefits. Any period of acupuncture will benefit fertility treatment and overall health, as well as lower the chance of miscarriage.

Regular acupuncture treatment is essential for optimal results. Specific hormonal adjustments are made at each week of the cycle. Missing any week risks losing an opportunity to heal a particular part of the four phase menstrual cycle. Regardless of the patient’s age it takes 12 treatments over 12 weeks (3 complete cycles) to do the foundation work of menstrual regulation.

    Specific Conditions Helped by Acupuncture

Acupuncture can open blocked or contracted fallopian tubes by improving blood circulation.

Acupuncture can reduce FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone), increasing the quality of the female’s eggs. This may take up to 6 months for women in their late 30’s or older.

Acupuncture can enhance the quality of the uterine lining, necessary for helping the embryo implantation and the growth of a healthy baby.

Acupuncture can reduce Uterine Contractions after an IVF procedure by relaxing the patient and the uterus so that it won’t contract and expel the fertilized egg.

With Chinese herbs acupuncture can help a couple to have a baby naturally, without drugs. Chinese herbs greatly increase chances for a healthy pregnancy.

First trimester acupuncture treatments, done on a weekly basis, may greatly reduce the risk of miscarriage, especially with women who have a history of the disorder.

Last trimester acupuncture treatments can enhance pregnancy, Labour and Delivery, reducing chances of a breech Baby, delayed labour and back pain, as well as stress and Postpartum depression. Labour can be shorter with acupuncture treatment.
